December 29, 2017 – Our Creative Haven

I recently had a conversation with a lovely friend of mine, Becky . She suggested that I should incorporate a cup of tea into my blog. According to her everything is always made better with a cup of tea! So this week’s blog is inspired by and dedicated to her! Now I have to admit I’m not a tea drinker, I have tried to! It’s a drink I’d love to be able to enjoy mainly for what it seems to symbolise for many in England, a thirst quencher, a catch up with friends over afternoon tea, a comfort when receiving sad news. It’s the go to drink. My hot drink of choice is a Hot Chocolate. For me it is not only a snug comfort drink but something that reminds me of time spent catching up with dear friends and family, and also time spent reflecting and planning on my own. And what better time to reflect on a year gone by and to plan new adventures than New Year! There are some pretty big things on my goals list for the upcoming year already, starting with a move to London and the start of a new job in February. Eek I’m going to need a lot of hot choc to calm those nerves! So anyway here is a little creative idea to help kick-start your 2018 and to help you sit down, chill out and start planning some amazing adventures…

All you will need are some plain mugs, some old nail varnish, nail varnish remover, and a bowl you don’t mind getting dirty/ruined!!

Once you’ve filled the bowl with water start drizzling in your chosen nail varnishes. Try to cover the outer aspects of the water too as these are the areas that will end up on the visible surface of your mug.

Once you’re happy with your varnish, dip the mug in the water on a slant. Don’t worry if some of the nail varnish spills into the inner surface of the mug as whilst it is still wet you can use a cotton swab soaked in nail varnish remover to remover unwanted spills. Once removed, turn the mugs upside down to allow the excess water to dry off.

Now this is the messy part! Cleaning up! Use something to scoop out the excess nail varnish, poor out the water and let the bowl dry. My advice would be to use a bowl that you don’t mind either keeping as scrap or to recycle it. I have tried before to clean the bowl completely and it got extremely messy!!
